UI Improve ROI -Houzz

Project Scope

To identify opportunities which help improve ROI on existing website and enahnce search function.

The problem

While looking for ”how to” articles, inspiration and possibly to find a contractor on a desktop, we found the site has plenty of useful information, but lacks organization and searchability. Currently there are two ways to find information within the site, utilizing the (1) search input  and (2) drop down menu (each with several options). Below are the perimeters used for the search:

Search input (1)-  entered “how to add wallpaper to bedroom” and “how to add wallpaper”
a)Input text “how to…”, hit enter
b)Input text “how to….“ hit enter and selected “…in Advise” preemptive text drop down

Dropdown (2)– used following dropdown paths:
a)“GET IDEAS” > “MAGAZINE” > “Remodeling Guides”
None of the two above methods yielded successful search results, so a third way was used:

Search Engine (3)– google.com
a)
Entered the same term “ how to add wallpaper”

The Solution

For the purpose of this project not all pages of the site were rendered, however it is recommended to apply following enhanced elements to the entire website:

  • New simplified header
  • Footer enabled as soon as you scroll
  • Offer Display order ability where applicable
  • Pagination on all pages
  • Adding section search for all pages
  • Improve internal search function
  • Offer ”enhanced” ad option in addition to the current ads

The proposed enhancement will increase the quality of the user experience by helping them find what they are looking for. With a streamlined design and better functionality, the user will stay on the site longer. Increased engagement combined with the additions of new ad-space will help increase ROI.
